As the story above states, you are your own boss when you move into retirement living or a land lease community, known as lifestyle resorts.

Paul Yeo, Lincoln Place CEO, said he was now allowing two car parking spots in his communities as the couples moving in, often head out early to go to work, be it part-time, voluntary or full-time.

Retirement village operator Keyton biannually surveys 4500 plus people aged over 55 who are retired or semi-retired for its Keyton Retirement Living Lifestyle Report.

“On the financial front it indicated how people living in a retirement village are less worried about cost-of-living pressures. One of the reasons for this is many of the lifestyle and wellbeing amenities are for the retirement living experience. There are no other incremental costs to pay such as a pool, gym membership or for movies which are shown in a Keyton cinema or community centre located on site,” said Keyton CEO Nathan Cockerill.

“Other cost of living benefits include having access to a village local community centre where there’s a bar hosting happy hours and plenty of other social functions. Furthermore, retirement village residents are right-sizing into purpose-built homes which afford reduced operating costs for energy, water and rates compared to having to live in a large family home.”

Retirement village life offers a safe haven, with 65% of residents feeling safer, 46% less isolated and 40% more supported than before moving into the village, suggesting that retirement villages may be beneficial to Australia’s ageing population.

57% of Aussies aged 75 and over who are retired and those living in retirement villages rate their social connection levels as excellent or very good compared to other demographics.

Retirement village residents are enthusiastic for adventurous exploits, including a readiness for online dating (9%) and outdoor adventures (25%).
