Played over two days at GemLife Palmwoods Over 50s Resort on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast last weekend, the third annual GemLife Games continues to shine a light on what a great life can be had in later years.

There is nothing comparable to the GemLife Games. A crowd record of nearly 750 residents, volunteers and spectators descended on the resort and fun was had by all.

Ten GemLife resorts across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria took part in eight events.

“The GemLife Games exemplifies the spirit of community and active living that GemLife is known for,” said GemLife Director and CEO Adrian Puljich. “This year’s games are the biggest yet – and we are immensely proud to be the only land lease community operator in Australia hosting an event like this.”

This year’s program featured eight sporting events, including the return of the swimming competition, which was expanded to include men’s and women’s age groups. The sports line-up also included lawn bowls, pickleball, table tennis, ten-pin bowling, golf simulator, and eight-ball pool.

Off the field, the energy was just as strong. Cheer squads brought colour and enthusiasm to the sidelines, while the GemLife Palmwoods mascot, Paynter the Platypus, made regular rounds, posing for photos and encouraging athletes.

“What a fantastic two days it’s been! I’ve had so much fun and met so many lovely, friendly people from all the resorts,” said Glenys Cummings, representing GemLife Rainbow Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast, as part of the NSW Coasters team.

“These games are amazing. GemLife has turned it on – it’s so well organised, there’s great food, friendly staff, and wonderful volunteers. And to top it all off, I had the pleasure of staying with my wonderful billet, Olive.”

GemLife Events Manager Sarka Hill, said the joy on people’s faces said it all.

“The GemLife Games has become more than a sporting event – it’s a celebration,” Sarka said. “Seeing so many of our homeowners enjoying themselves over these past two days has made all the long hours more than worth it.”

For the third year running, GemLife Maroochy Quays on the Sunshine Coast took the trophy as overall resort winner.
