If thinking it is time to sell the family home and considering retirement living, make sure it has what you desire.
Bolton Clarke, which operates 38 retirement communities from North Queensland down to Victoria and across to Western Australia, operates the Bolton Clarke Research Institute.
It’s Ageing Well Report 2023 found an active lifestyle is the top priority, with more than half of over-65s surveyed in the Ageing Well Report saying staying active and access to health services are the most important ingredients for ageing well.
The findings built on co-design work and research Bolton Clarke has undertaken over the past 10 years in conjunction with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and other partners to understand the needs of older people and incorporate them into connected care and living options.
Findings from Bolton Clarke’s biennial Health and Wellbeing in Retirement Living Survey have further driven design priorities with falls prevention, nutrition and regular physical activity identified by current retirement village residents as important focus areas to support active ageing.
Bolton Clarke has a Be Healthy and Active program with free, practical sessions to help residents get the most out of life.
The Retirement Living Council’s Better Housing for Better Health report states residents in retirement communities are:
15% more physically active.
41% happier, and both physically and mentally healthier.
Five times more socially active.
Twice as likely to catch up with family or friends.
Have reduced levels of depression and loneliness.
Retirement living is a community of similar aged people, with the opportunity to do as much or as little as possible.
