The cost of living in Australia is being felt by everyone with seniors among the worst affected.
However, the Federal and State Governments are offering financial energy rebates.
NSW
Independent retirees in NSW holding a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card can apply for a $200-per-year Seniors Energy Rebate.
Eligible households, including those who already receive an existing NSW energy rebate, will automatically receive the $500 bill relief from the Energy Bill Relief Fund.
Western Australia
One of the wealthiest states in the entire world offers the Energy Concession Extension Scheme, which includes a yearly payment of $326.33. It is available to holders of the Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Seniors Health Card and Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card holders.
Households eligible for the ECES can get up to $500 in additional bill relief from the Energy Bill Relief Fund, while all other households can get up to $400 in bill relief.
Victoria
In Victoria, an annual electricity concession wiping 17.5% off electricity usage and service costs for holders of a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card and Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card is available.
Eligible households, including those who already receive an existing Victorian energy rebate, will automatically receive the $500 relief from the Energy Bill Relief Fund.
Queensland
Holders of the Queensland Seniors Card and Services Australia or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card are eligible for an Electricity Rebate of $372.20 per year (GST inclusive) and/or the Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate of $89.70 per year (GST inclusive).
Eligible households, including those who already receive an existing Queensland energy rebate, will automatically receive the $500 bill relief from the Energy Bill Relief Fund.
South Australia
If you possess a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veteran Gold Card, then you are eligible for up to $263.15 per year for an energy rebate.
In addition, if you hold the SA Concessions Energy Discount Offer and your supplier is Origin Energy, then there is a guaranteed 17% off electricity usage and supply charges.
Eligible households can also get up to $500 from the Energy Relief Fund.
Tasmania
The Apple Isle offers a daily discount of 172.434 cents per day to people with the Services Australia or DVA Pensioner Concession Card, and Services Australia Health Care Card.
There’s also a heating allowance of $56 per year available to eligible pensioners.
Eligible households in Tasmania can get $250 in bill relief rebates per year over two years as part of the Energy Bill Relief Fund.
North Territory
The Northern Territory Concession Scheme provides a concession of up to $1,200 per annum for electricity.
It is available to anyone receiving the age pension, disability support pension, carer payment, and veterans’ affairs benefits.
Eligible households can also get $350 in bill relief from the Energy Relief Bill Fund.
Australian Capital Territory
ACT Government offers the Utilities Concession Scheme, which provides up to $750 a year if you have a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, ACT Service Access Card or Veteran Gold Card.
Eligible households can get $175 in bill relief as part of the Energy Bill Relief Fund.
Residents’ bills should also be lower due to the ACT’s large-scale feed-in tariff scheme, which is expected to lower the average household bill by $152 per year.
