Most people who enter retirement living now stay for an average of nine years, according to the 2023 PwC/Property Council Retirement Census.
When Carinity Wishart Gardens opened its retirement village in the southern suburb of Brisbane in 1996, it offered an affordable choice for people seeking a low maintenance home in a friendly community, a similar message to today’s marketing.
Jean Miller, Daphne Roberts and Glynn Bensley were taken by the offer and have been residents ever since. The trio recently celebrated Carinity’s 75th birthday over cake with Retirement Villages Manager, Maddison Morgan.
Jean said she has never regretted calling Carinity Wishart Gardens home.
“The best thing about my life here is that I have a wonderful community of neighbours and friends,” she said.
“There are always activities happening, so I don’t have any sense of isolation. I know that if I need help, there’s assistance available pretty well immediately for me.
“It’s very reassuring for my family to know that I am safe here. It’s a wonderful place to be.”
Maddison said Jean, Daphne and Glynn were the best advertisement a retirement village could have.
“It is testament to the quality of what’s on offer. This was supported by our recent survey of residents, which revealed 96% of residents said they feel safe and secure living in their village and 94% would recommend it to a friend.”
