When Del Furlonger moved into Aveo’s The Domain Country Club on the Gold Coast 37 years ago, she thought she might be too young. “I thought I’d be bored – but that was far from the case,” she laughs.
Instead, she built a life full of activity, friendships, and family. After her husband George passed away, Del stayed involved in the village community – and even remarried at 87 in the gardens.
Del helped cut the ribbon on the village’s newly refurbished Clubhouse, alongside her daughter Susan Irvine – who’s now also a resident.
“Mum never regretted the move,” Susan said. “She helped shape the community we know today. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren still visit, and we’ve had so many family gatherings here. It’s a place filled with love and memories.”
The Domain has grown from just 52 villas to more than 320, and is the flagship Gold Coast village for Aveo, which operates 65 retirement communities across four states. The company has been investing millions in upgrades across its 10,000-unit portfolio – with another 3,000 homes in the pipeline.
Aveo CEO Tony Randello said the goal is to create vibrant, connected communities that feel like home.
“We’re committed to making sure residents can thrive, with spaces that support wellbeing, independence and connection,” he said.
Today, The Domain offers a range of one-bedroom serviced apartments and two- or three-bedroom villas, priced from $320,000 to $810,000.
Del wouldn’t change a thing. “I’ve lived a wonderful life here,” she said. “This village holds so many special memories – and it just keeps getting better.”
